The guys over at Game Informer visited with Naughty Dog a while back to grab a glimpse of The Last of Us. This is is the first new IP from Naughty Dog since the living legend, the Uncharted series. Game Informer made this their cover story in  issue #227 and if you haven’t read it, really, shame on you.

They got to check out 15 minutes of the game. During this time you take control of Joel, the gruff and tough type, the protagonist of the game. Your companion, Ellen Page  Ellie, is purely controlled through AI. No co-op here kids. Not to worry, from what I’ve been reading she responds to action in a way unlike you are accustomed to from a typical computer controlled partner. This is not zombie filled Adventures in Babysitting affair. At one point when Joel was down, Ellie comes across the back of an attacker’s head with a brick. Not sure if it was a cut-scene, if not the scenarios I am dreaming up would be freaking sweet.  Some of the things they are doing with enemy AI is no slouch either. GI highlighted this one physical disagreement in the game by talking about Joel and Ellie’s frenemie’s response to the brandishing of a gun. I tell you, truly unique stuff. Not your typical “I have a gun, you have a gun, and let’s just shoot each other until the bullet well runs dry. Oh yeah, I’m enemy AI we don’t run out of bullets” fair. I know, a mouthful, sorry about that.

If you cannot get your hands on the March issue of GI, that’s okay. The PlayStation Blog have a pretty good write that you check out. Also, Game Informer basically has a depository of info on it on their website.
